So, what about Volkswagen? Will they enter NASCAR? That rumor has been circulating for much of 2010 and could prove to be true. Volkswagen is hungry for new customers and is about ready to open up its first U.S. manufacturing plant since closing its Pennsylvania plant in 1988.

That plant, slated to go online in spring 2011 near Chattanooga, Tennessee will build a yet named midsize sedan. That sedan, designed exclusively for the North American market, will compete against three cars already getting track time through NASCAR: the Chevrolet Malibu, Ford Fusion and the Toyota Camry. The fourth model, a Dodge Charger, is a full-size model, but VW does compete against the midsize Avenger.

So when I first started doing research on this car, I didn't know that it was so old. Production on the Mini Cooper & Mini Rims began in 1959. It was manufactured by BMC (British Motor Company) & its successors. If you were to ask someone who just so happens to be British, they'll probably say (in a British accent, of course) that the Mini Cooper & it's Mini Cooper Wheels are somewhat the equivalent to the Volkswagen Beetle that we have here in the United States.. or North America.

The 2010 Paris Motor Show featured a number of interesting models, presenting the latest vehicles offered by European, Asian and American manufacturers as well as several concept designs. One concept present wasn't even a car, rather it was an electric scooter, designed for the niche MINI Cooper brand.

However as much as I love this car, I feel I must say that it's not perfect. The indicator stalks are still sourced from the Vauxhall Senator parts bin which I feel could at least have used the Ford set up from the Lotus Evora or why not a nice set of their own? I understand that this car is all about economy but if you close your eyes and fire the engine up you would think you are in a Toyota Avensis, one of the dullest machines on the road. Such a disappointing engine sound, however this changes when you drive the Elise. Once taken past a certain engine rev limit a second camshaft opens up, producing a much satisfying deeper engine tone whilst aiding the power. I can't winge about the boring engine sound on this new Elise, if they had added a sporty exhaust system then the emissions would have been higher and thus taking the whole point away of this car. If you want that then get the next model up or better still an Evora if you have the money. The Elise is a car for anyone, it's at home in a supermarket car park as it would be with a WAG. Qwerky, iconic and owned by many celebrities including Jay Lo, Jennifer Lopez or what ever she wants to call herself. Oh and one other thing.. dead flies on the windscreen. Both of which will put everyone off wanting to buy a Lotus Elise. Not bad if that's all I can find to moan about.

And the company had gained so much response that they had launched the 2 main types of this model: the first model is of the Lotus Elise of Series 1 and other is of Series 2.

This is the new entry level Elise, powered by its smallest engine yet. A 1.6 litre Toyota unit, coupled with a new 6 speed gearbox. This car is all about economy and at £27,000 offers supercar looks for sales rep saloon money. Now for the part that appeals to me. 56 mpg is impressive and must be considered a huge attraction with its 500 mile range. The team at Lotus have nick named this car the 149 due to its low emission output of 149g of Co2 per Km. I just think it's a nice way of saying 'yes we have the worlds most eco friendly petrol powered sports car. With the confidence of a reliable Japanese powerplant the Elise is kind of in its little world. Of course there are rival brands and models to consider but all of these lack the little Lotus's charm, lines and stunning drive. Don't think that the small engine makes the Lotus experience any less either. It doesn't. It will reach 60 mph in just 6 seconds and is capable of making you grin with ease. This new Elise handles, grips and snoggs the road like a teenage love affair, you could almost forgive yourself to think that winding roads and bends were designed 100 years ago as these industrial pioneers knew that someday a car would be built to drive around them without almost flat out.

The so-called urban utility vehicle was first introduced to the public in 2011 and from then on, it has received quite a warm welcome from car buyers. The Scion xB is characterized by its boxy design and this has already become a distinction for Scion cars. It would seem that Scion car buyers loved the boxy design of the xB because the latest model of the vehicle is made even bigger and still has a boxy design. The latest installment of the Scion xB is the result of the feedbacks of xB owners that they wanted a bigger car.

Beyond these changes to the sound system, the xB remains a practical way to be offbeat. The xB's boxy shape and surprisingly sizable proportions provide a maximum of 70 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seatbacks folded, which is only 3 cubes less than the capacity of Toyota's RAV4. Raise those seats and there's enough room in back for a pair of full-size adults. The xB is also quite powerful thanks to a punchy 158-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. It's not the most fuel-efficient engine around, though, which is a definite drawback to the xB. Other demerits include distracting center-mounted gauges and a non-telescoping wheel that will likely infuriate taller drivers.

The VW Jetta media event was a little different than usual since most of the journalists were foreign. There were groups from Singapore, Mexico, Canada, India, China, and elsewhere. Obviously, Volkswagen is reaching out. However, the new Jetta design is clearly aimed at the North American market.

We spent an entire day driving the new Jetta through the streets of San Francisco, along the upper Pacific coast highway, and back through the twisting roads in the Napa valley. Although there are four trim levels, our only choice for testing was the SEL model, either in automatic or manual. The base trim, referred to as VW's entry-level model, is called S, and has a beginning price of just $15,995. That is almost $2000 less than last year's offering. The SE model is slightly more upgraded. Our test model SEL's are the most completely trimmed out and have a price tag of about $21,000. That price includes an 8 speaker audio system, Bluetooth phone system, iPod integration, and a standard navigation system. The SEL's standard engine is a 2.5-liter that produces 170 horsepower. There is also a TDI trim that features a 2.0-liter TDI diesel four cylinder.

For 2006, Hyundai has released an all new Accent and its first larger car, the Azera. Powered by an aluminum 3.8L V6 engine, the Azera compares favorably in size and in amenities with the Toyota Avalon, the top of the line car for the Japanese automaker. However, Hyundai isn't finished just yet.

Waiting in the wings is a full sized rear wheel drive car, the Equus. With the same standard engine as the Azera, the Equus also comes with a V8 and will be positioned to compete directly with the Buick Lucerne, perhaps even Cadillac's DTS. The current model, introduced in 1999, is undergoing a major revision and will be replaced in 2006. Hyundai hopes to bring this model to the US by 2008, although the Equus name might be changed.
